Huang Chunchang's comment on China's flood research published in Science

opus体育平台Prof. Huang Chunchang of Shaanxi Normal University's School of Tourism and Environmental Studies and his research team have published a technical comment on a research on China's Great Flood in the top international journal Science (Vol. 355, Issue 6332, pp. 1382, DOI: 10.1126/science.aak9657)

opus体育平台The four-page article is titled "Comment on "Outburst flood at 1920 BCE supports historicity of China's Great Flood and the Xia dynasty".

opus体育平台Another Chinese scholar Wu Qinglong and his team published a research in Science in 2016, discussing issues about the origin of Chinese civilization and pre-historical major natural calamities as evidenced at the Lajia Ruins in western China's Qinghai province. The research was extensively covered by Chinese and international media and was commented by foreign scholars as the "greatest flood on earth known so far, even comparing it with the flood in the Bible.

opus体育平台Prof. Huang claims, with latest evidences from field surveys, lab analysis and dating data, that Wu Qinglong's theory about pre-historical super flood in upper reaches of the Yellow River lacks effective geological geographic and environmental archaeological evidences.

In the past few years, Prof. Huang, together with Prof. Pang Jiangli, Prof. Zha Xiaochun and associate Prof. Zhou Yali, surveyed the sites of Lajia Ruins in Guangting Basin and Jishi Gorge along the Yellow River, and published their research findings about the relations between environmental changes, ancient floods and natural calamities in journals like Holocene, J. of Asian Earth Science, Acta Geographica Sinica and Acta Pedologica Sinica.
